Our Products How are our products made? Love from O'Baby products are dedicated to using traditional craft methods of skincare. Our products are hand harvested on a 15 acre organically run coastal property located near the nature reserve of the Bridal Veils in the Coromandel in New Zealand. The harvested herbs are then made into alcohol extracts and infused oils. All herbs are picked in the morning after the dew has evaporated, as this is when they are most active medicinally. Roots, such as comfrey are harvested in the spring and autumn when the sap is moving through them. The only preservative that is added to any products is a grapefruit seed extract in vegetable glycerine. Alcohol Extracts: Herbs are either processed fresh, or wilted over night to reduce water content. The menstrum is pure ethanol (grain) alcohol, usually at 50% with the filtered rain water, except with certain herbs where 100% ethanol is required for the best extraction. Extracts are made in the traditional way where they are left in the menstrum for at least 4 months, often longer. This is similar to the Chinese method that ensures that no herbal material is strained in the process. No heat is used in this process. The extracts are then strained through unbleached cotton and are now ready to add to crème’s. The herbs in our range extracted in this way include: Chickweed, Plaintain, Cleavers, Comfrey, Calendula and Gingko. INFUSED OILS: These are made using organic cold pressed olive oil and then infused for 4-6 weeks. Herbs used in the Love from O’Baby range using infused oils are: Chickweed, plaintain and calendula. CRÈME’S : All our crèmes are water based. The cream base is from the FPI laboratory, which guarantees it paraben and GE free and NOT tested on animals. BALMS: These are oil based preparations and are 100% plant derived. The beeswax used in the balms comes from Ngaruawahia hives in New Zealand. Balms are solid oils formulations which melt to an oil consistency at skin temperature. They are deeply nourishing and protective to even the most delicate skin. View our range...
